LAVA
Money makes the world go round and science is no exception. In the nineties some big chemical companies merged with agrocultural companies and started exploring new sources of profit. They invested in laboratories and genetic scientists and promised us new seeds that could grow in difficult circumstances. Some companies even hoped to manipulate animals as well, for instance to make a cow that has medicine for humans in its milk. All over the world they tried to get patents on existing plants, so that they could use its DNA for their own business. The song LAVA is about all this and especially about the insanity of getting a patent on an already existing plant. Yes, that’s true, put your boots on, young and wild punk explorers! For in nature there are thousands of plants waiting to be ‘discovered’ by enterprising young men. Never mind that maybe some stupid indians discovered them first and were using them for thousand years, once that you have your patent, the plant is yours and the stupid indians have to pay you to use it. Who said all robbery is illegal?
lyrics
01. Lava
Genomen weggeborgen
Diefstal van iedereen
Je betaalt het duur!
De aarde die betaalt het duur!
TRANSLATION
Lava
Like Lava, like a caustic acid
Money finds itself a way on earth
Requires a return on investments
Burns itself a way on earth
Digest all what comes on its way
Steadily it’s value is increasing
Like lava, like a caustic acid
Grinds itself into the earth
You pay a high price for it
The value, you pay a high price for it
New markets become necessary when the profits don’t increase anymore
Gentechnology, the new milch cow of chemical companies
Wild plants, buy it back!
Your own genes, buy it back!
Your own harvest, buy it back!
Stolen goods, buy it back!
From everybody, from nobody
Now it’s only theirs
Genome, taken away and put away
Theft from everyone
You pay a high price for it
The earth will pay a high price for it!
